Once again, it has paid handsomely to follow the investment genius of Japanese housewives. When currency markets gyrated to the hollering over carry trades at the end of February, Mrs Watanabe used the temporary jump in the yen to top up on foreign currency denominated assets.

Japan, Hong Kong Stocks Finish Higher (AP)

Asian markets advanced strongly Monday, with Japanese stocks lifted by exporters like Toyota and Canon, while Hong Kong’s benchmark index jumped 2.1 percent. Markets in Australia, China, Indonesia and South Korea all closed at record highs.

Dollar at Near Record Low Vs. Euro (AP)

The dollar gave up more ground to the euro, which climbed to within one cent of its all-time high, and the pound neared $2 Monday. Movement against the dollar could drive up the price of exports and tighten the pinch for travelers to Europe just as the tourist season approaches.
