Copart quarterly profit rises 12% as revenue falls

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Copart Inc. late Tuesday reported third-quarter net earnings of $38.9 million, or 41 cents a share, up 12% from $34.7 million, or 37 cents a share, during the year-ago period. The Fairfield, Calif.-based provider of vehicle-salvage disposition services said revenue for the three months ended April 30 fell to $145.7 million from $149.5 million. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had forecast, on average, a per-share profit of 41 cents on revenue of $154 million.
