Emaar a drag on stocks

Emaar shares fell 2.6% Wednesday, adding to the fall in UAE indices, Gulf News reports. Emaar was down after first half results showed a 59% revenue growth was offset by a 141% increase in costs. Dubai Islamic Bank and Dubai Investments also fell.

IBM moves up after quarterly results; eBay loses ground

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Shares of International Business Machines rose 3% Wednesday evening after the technology giant’s quarterly results came in above Wall Street’s expectations, while shares of eBay Inc. eased as the online auctioneer said its quarterly profit jumped but that growth in its core business continues to cool.

Steam pipe explodes near Grand Central Station in NY: AP

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — The New York Police Department said there was an apparent steam pipe explosion near Grand Central Station in Manhattan during the evening rush hour, according to a media report late Wednesday. The officials said it didn’t appear to be terrorism-related, the Associated Press reported, and there were no immediate details on possible injuries.
