Japanese robot shipments rise in April to June quarter

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — Japanese industrial robot shipments increased in the April to June quarter, marking the 10th consecutive quarterly gain, according to reports citing data from the Japan Robot Association.
The association’s affiliated companies reported domestic shipments totaled 48.2 billion yen ($416.74 million), up 9.1% from the same quarter a year earlier, according to the Nikkei News Tuesday, which cited figures released by the association.
Shipments to the automotive sector were up 6.5%, while shipments to the electronics and electrical equipment industry climbed 11.1%, the report said. Exports of robotic equipment totaled 87.8 billion yen, an increase of 8.5% from a year earlier and surpassing a record set in the September-ending quarter last year, the report said.
