Idaho Sen. Larry Craig resigns effective Sept. 30

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - Idaho Sen. Larry Craig said Saturday he would resign effective Sept. 30, as the Republican came under pressure in the wake of news that he was arrested this summer in an airport restroom. At a press conference, Craig said that it would be an ”unfair distraction” for him to continue serving. Foreigners buy $515.1m on DFM

The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) has revealed the value of shares and bonds bought by foreign investors last week reached $515.1m, comprising 32.4% of the total value of stock traded. The value of shares sold by foreign investors during the same period amounted to $520.3m, 32.7% of the total. The value of stock bought by institutional investors last week totalled $365.7m, making up 23% of the total.

Kuwaiti cash increases

Kuwait’s money supply grew at its fastest pace since 1994 in July, reported Reuters. M3, the broadest money supply measure, reached $63.9bn at the end of July, a rise of 22.5% on the same month in 2006; the country’s money supply had risen by 17.7% in June. Kuwait ditched its dollar peg two months ago to control rising prices.

Tasi slumps 2%

Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul All Share Index (Tasi) suffered a 1.9% dip today, Saturday. The bourse ended trading at 8,073.3 points, a fall of 153.7 points. The Alahli Takaful Company was the day’s biggest loser falling almost 10%, while the Saudi IAIC Co-operative Insurance Company experienced a similar slump.
