SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Melyvn Weiss, a lawyer who pioneered the class action suit, was sentenced in federal court in Los Angeles to 30 months in prison, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition Monday. He is to report to prison Aug. 28 in Morgantown, W. Va., the newspaper said. Weiss had pleaded guilty to a federal racketeering conspiracy, admitting that he entered into ‘’secret payment arrangements” with individuals who served as lead plaintiffs in class actions, the Journal said.
